Steel Mezzanine Platform, Short's Gardens WC2H
A new steel mezzanine platform designed and built within an existing multi-storey void in the heart of London's WC2H, supporting a striking two-storey spiral staircase.
EMA Structures is proud to share the successful completion of a technically complex structural installation at Short's Gardens, in the heart of London's WC2H. The project involved the design and build of a new steel mezzanine platform integrated within an existing multi-storey void, to support a striking two-storey spiral staircase.
The challenge
Introducing a new mezzanine into a live, multi-storey space meant working within the constraints of the existing structure, coordinating new steelwork with the surrounding building, and ensuring every connection and load path was designed to carry the new platform and the feature staircase safely.
What EMA did
EMA provided an engineering-led design-and-build service, from the structural design of the mezzanine and its connections through to fabrication coordination and installation on site. Our in-house engineering and construction teams worked together so the design intent carried right through to the finished platform.
Outcome
The completed mezzanine and spiral staircase were delivered to the engineering specification, adding usable floor area within the existing void while becoming a striking architectural feature of the space.
